March 10th Basketball Match-Up Between Harlem Ambassadors and "Raging Rotarians" Raises Money for Polio Plus
A great time was held on March 10th when Rotarians, including DG Bob Hagan, Alec Smythe and Raymond Ray suited up to play ball for polio. Almost 200 people attended the game which was full of theater, real basketball playing and fun. Just when it looked a little daunting for the Raging Rotarians, a special force of Raging Rotarians, some about 6'9'' tall, arrived and things got serious. Included on the special team were Willie Anderson, Brian Thompson and Anthony "Pig" Miller - accomplished professional basketball players. Special guests included Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul, a member of the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs, and Bill Nordmark, a polio-survivor/former Georgia State University basketball player who is a member of the Atlanta Rotary Club and a moving force behind Rotary's PolioPlus initiative. Rotary Club of Sandy Springs member Jim Squire was an Assistant Coach for the event. A number of Rotary Club of Sandy Springs members attended the event with guests, including Jerry Hicks, Mike Lindstrom, Will MacArthur, Sally Wyeth, Rick Doyle, and Ed Steele.
